About EMW

Our company started out in the 1970s as a Saltcoats area welding and repair shop. Founders Ewen and Shirley Morrison worked hard to grow the business, and as grain elevators used our services more and more, we needed more staff to keep up with demand.

Shirley was the business manager and became a popular and familiar face among our agri-business clients. She kept a watchful eye over Ewen’s ambition and together, they have turned our company, EMW Industrial, into a prairie success story.

Today we employ over 170 people. Many are family members; others have become family. Although our employees are spread across the prairies, we are proud to call Saltcoats home. In 2007 Morrison decided to change the ownership structure of EMW. Fifteen members of the EMW Industrial management team executed what Morrison calls a “management buy-in.”

“This management buy-in will provide stability and new capacity for EMW. I will remain as CEO and will be fully engaged in the business. The change is a part of a longer-term plan that could see majority ownership of the company transfer to its employees,” said Morrison
